Cool Fool

Today started out as one of THOSE days.

One of those days where everything just rubs you the wrong way and you are impatient and irritated for no real reason.

I decided to go for a drive over the bridge and along the coast to readjust my attitude. I stopped for gas before heading out and then hit the road. I was gone about an hour and was annoyed for most of my drive. Other drivers were too slow, were in my way, just existed in the first place.

You know the mood.

I had my tunes on, the sunroof open, was too cool to be bothered with anyone else and in a hurry to get nowhere.

Annoyed.

I got home and checked my review as I was backing up. There was SOMETHING sticking out on the side of my car.

My gas cap. I had left the fuel door open and the gas cap hanging out in my frustration at the gas station when the screen kept asking me questions.

Receipt: NO

Car Wash: NO

OK. Only two questions but it seemed like a lot at the time.

I had to laugh.

For all of my irritation and hurry, for all of my “coolness” didn’t I look lame driving around all puffed up with my gas cap hanging out.

That was it.

The reality check and dramatic face slap I needed to get a grip and snap out of my mood.

The Universe has a way of showing us our foolishness and bringing us back down to earth and reality like nothing else can.

I hurried to screw the cap back on and close the fuel door before anyone else saw my shame. Of course the neighbor across the street was sitting on his second story porch with an eagle eye view of what was happening.

Of course he was.

I shrugged and shook my head at my foolishness and he called out to me with a laugh “Hey! We’ve all been there.”

Yes. I suppose we have.
