Door To Nowhere

Pocket Door

When we started getting serious about not just moving…..but moving to an old house, I started working on my “Wish List.” Old homes have such wonderful details and I wanted them ALL.

Some I got.

Some I didn’t.

One item I was hoping for was pocket doors.

I am a child of Narnia and Wonderland and Nancy Drew.

I love a hidden door even if it leads nowhere. The idea of pulling a door out of a wall to create a cozy hideaway, or pushing it back in to reveal another side of the same room appealed to me more than almost any other item on the list. Except maybe an onsite cemetery……

So I was over the moon when I discovered that The Narwhal had a set.

They are off the track (I am guessing) at the moment and only open a fraction of the way, but they are here, they are glorious (I hope) and fixing them is on the “to do” list.

I spoke to a woman online who found multiple sets of pocket doors sealed in and trimmed over while in the process of restoring her old house. This has me eyeing the different rooms (front parlor) that historically would have had a pocket door and itching to take a crowbar to the trim to see if there is one hidden away.

My husband has advised me against that.

And since he is the one fixing most of what is broken….I will hold off (for now) and be happy with the one magical hidden door to nowhere that I DO have.
