And getting caught in the rain……
I pointed out the black clouds this morning as we headed out for our walk.
Waved them off, dismissed them, deemed them too far off.
Too far to be a concern, a threat, too far to have any impact on us.
And so, we set out full of bravado only to be put in our place at the halfway mark.
Just as far forward as doubling back, the sky broke open and put us in our place. We stood dumbfounded in the sudden downpour, shocked we had been wrong, embarrassed to be caught, exposed in the open without an umbrella, a hood, a plan.
We scrambled across the street, sought shelter under the awning of the Presbyterian church.
Laughed at ourselves and the foolishness of man as the dogs shook water from their coats, rued the day they trusted our inferior judgement, and waited patiently for nature to finish teaching us our lesson.
