I have a friend I rarely speak to.
We used to work together before I moved away but time and distance have caused us to lose touch.
There is the occasional social media tag or brief text to check in but they have become fewer and further between.
Today while sitting at a red light on my way home from the grocery store, I spotted an election sign for a candidate I had not heard of who shared his last name. I hastily snapped a picture thinking he would get a kick out of it and planed to send it later in the day.
Fast forward fifteen minutes.
I got home, let the dogs out and was in the middle of putting the groceries away when my phone dinged with a message from this very same friend.
A quick note to see how we were doing and asking for a movie recommendation.
Just like that.
After months of no communication we crossed paths with each other from opposite sides of the country.
It reminded me that we are all connected.
In some way, on some level.
There are times during the cycle of life, during our journey around the sun, when we drift further apart and times when we swing closer together. We need each other in this life in order to find balance and to keep from drifting off into space.
It is this tether between us, this line that navigates the distance and connects us, that records our journey, draws the constellations and in the end, tells the story of our lives.
