We ordered take out for lunch today from the local deli. A salad for me, a sandwich for my husband. While unpacking the bag we realized there had been an error and we had been given an extra sandwich. by mistake. ReBirth Day Boy

 Facebook reminded me that eight years ago we celebrated Herbie’s “Rebirth Day.” Not knowing his real birthday, we decided to celebrate the day he was saved from the high kill shelter by a local rescue group and “reborn” into a (hopefully) better life. This silly, scruffy boy is my heart so when I was asked (years ago) to write a little something about him to support the rescue we got him from, I happily obliged. My husband and I were talking, just the other evening, while sitting on the front porch, shooing flies away, watching beetles scurry about, that among all of the creepy crawlers we are becoming familiar with, we had yet to see a proper grasshopper, remembered fondly from both of our childhoods. Stolen Summer

I turned my calendar over this morning and felt a pang of sadness and more than a hint of anger. September. Autumn on the horizon. Shorter days. Longer nights.
