Wise Men Say

I was sitting on the back step tossing a tennis ball to the dogs when I heard it. My husband had been working on a project outside for awhile before I came out so I deferred to him, “Do you hear music?” I asked cocking my head and straining my ear. To which he replied “This is the third rendition of “Wise Men Say” (not the real title I know….) I have heard since I came out.” It was time to investigate. We picked up the tools, shooed the dogs back inside and headed off, Pied Piper style, in the … Continue reading Wise Men Say

Mmmmm……

It has been a long weird week. For all of us….. Falling branches, falling stocks, stocking up, taking stock. Global pandemic, global panic, world in the toilet, toilet paper as currency. I have seen my new neighbors rush to help me during my own crisis: “Let me call my friend to help you with these smaller damaged trees.” “I know an auto body shop who might be able to help with your car.” While I have watched via my computer (still no TV) the world go off the rails; people coming to blows over paper products and bottles of water … Continue reading Mmmmm……

Spring Stroll

I had to go to the bank and post office today. Luckily for me (since I currently have no car) both are an easy walk from the house. Once I finished my errands, I grabbed an iced tea (unsweet) from the bakery and decided to take a stroll and enjoy the beautiful spring weather we have been having. I usually have my dogs with me when I walk which means more looking down than up as I try to keep from tripping over them as they pull this way and that after cats, birds, falling leaves and their favorite…..squirrels. It … Continue reading Spring Stroll

…Couldn’t Put Humpty Together Again.

This is Elektra. She is the unofficial mascot of my car and has ridden around in the cup holder for the past nine years next to Diet Coke cans, loose change and once a baby quail I rushed to the bird rescue center. Mechanics, car wash workers and passengers always looked at her a little strangely and looked at me stranger still. I never minded and neither did Elektra. She was my copilot and a bad ass and didn’t care what anyone else thought because she had places to go and things to see. I pulled her out of the … Continue reading …Couldn’t Put Humpty Together Again.

All The King’s Horses And All The King’s Men

I love my car. I am not a “car person,” and I don’t love cars….BUT I do love MY car. She is the first car I researched and picked out and decided on all by myself and buying her was the first time I had been able to get exactly what I wanted in a car. My previous cars had been hand me downs and second choices and although they got me from point A to point B they weren’t really “me.” This Cayenne Red cutie is fast and fun. She is quirky and different. She has a stick shift … Continue reading All The King’s Horses And All The King’s Men

An Oak By Any Other Name

A few weeks ago I wrote about the Live Oak tree down the street that had been cut down to make way for road expansion. (The Mighty Have Fallen.) I was saddened for that tree and concerned for my Oak. I decided then that I wanted to look into getting the tree on our property registered with the Live Oak Society. Doing so provides a measure of protection to the tree, my hope being that my legacy to this house and this property would be the preservation of this mighty tree for generations to come. As happens in life, things … Continue reading An Oak By Any Other Name

Earth Shattering Kaboom

Yesterday was one of those days. One of those days that starts off like other days until something you never saw coming happens and everything shifts and then it becomes a day you will never forget. A day that defines other days and becomes a reference point. What to do for lunch was the thing on my mind when I heard “The Noise.” It was a noise I can only describe as a big commercial truck bouncing, which was partially right. I heard the noise and felt the house shake and shake and shake. I was about to retreat to … Continue reading Earth Shattering Kaboom

“Mercy!”

It started with my Aunt. When my Mom was sick and my Aunt and I were caring for her, whenever we felt overwhelmed, which was often, we would look at each other and proclaim “MERCY!” Doing so somehow made everything seem less daunting. Today was a “MERCY!” day. I will leave you with this teaser picture (because I am exhausted and still processing,) let you know that everyone is OK and fill you in tomorrow. Say it with me… “MERCY!” Continue reading “Mercy!”

It’s Raining It’s Pouring

Today was one of those weather days the South does best. It brooded, it teased, it raged and relented and raged and relented some more for good measure. My husband was working from his office upstairs and I was puttering downstairs on projects of my own. In reality we spent the majority of the day wandering from window to window reporting back and forth to each other. “Can you hear it bouncing off the porch?” I called up. “Can you see it rising by the gate?” he shouted down. “Look at the moss waving in the wind” I tried to … Continue reading It’s Raining It’s Pouring
