Taste the Rainbow
My computer is on the fritz and my phone is dying. So tonight I leave you with this image of the amazing produce stand I discovered today…… Continue reading Taste the Rainbow
Celebritree
I saw them from the side window. The car had been idling on the corner for a few minutes before the woman got out of the passenger side and made her way to my fence. Her husband parked down the street and then joined her. There was pointing and circling to find the best angle and then the cameras came out. The subject of all this attention? Our Live Oak tree. I hurried outside, opened the gate and invited them into the yard to take a closer look. This is something that happens a LOT. It is impossible to work … Continue reading Celebritree
Don’t Look Back
Some days I sit back and question my life choices. Some days I wonder “What the Hell was I thinking?” Some days I wish I had my current knowledge and a chance to do things differently. Today is not one of those days. Surrounded by dust and debris. Suffocating behind my mask. Sanding and sanding and sanding some more…..I realize I could not be happier. There is something therapeutic about the rhythmic pulse of the sander. Something empowering about revving up a power tool. Something healing about watching layers peel back revealing something worth preserving. Something rewarding about doing a … Continue reading Don’t Look Back
We Say Ashe Together
My Mom has been on my mind all day. To be clear she is on my mind everyday, but some days she lingers longer and takes up residence in the hollow space between my ribs making it hard to breathe. On those days I am filled with a restless, anxious need that cannot be quelled, a heaviness that cannot be lifted. Today was one of those days. It started this morning when I opened the “pictures” app on my phone looking for something I wanted to show my husband. I had recently done a software update on my phone resulting … Continue reading We Say Ashe Together
Door To Nowhere
When we started getting serious about not just moving…..but moving to an old house, I started working on my “Wish List.” Old homes have such wonderful details and I wanted them ALL. Some I got. Some I didn’t. One item I was hoping for was pocket doors. I am a child of Narnia and Wonderland and Nancy Drew. I love a hidden door even if it leads nowhere. The idea of pulling a door out of a wall to create a cozy hideaway, or pushing it back in to reveal another side of the same room appealed to me more … Continue reading Door To Nowhere
The Wheels On The Window
Tonight’s quick “Little Thing I Love About My Old House” is the pulley system on the original weighted windows. Don’t get me wrong….these windows need help. Some are painted shut, some have cracked glass, some are drafty and rattle and bang in even the most gentle breeze. Most have wavy, crazed glass. All have one thing in common…..I love them. Especially the pulley rope and wheel. Every time I spot this little detail I smile. Continue reading The Wheels On The Window

It’s All In The Details
Tonight’s short but sweet shout out goes to the detailing on this fireplace mantel. We have four fireplaces (possibly a fifth behind an upstairs wall.) Each is special but this one is my favorite. I love all of the detailing and can’t wait to give it a proper polishing and really bring it back to life. And I REALLY can’t wait to get that room figured out so I can sit in there and enjoy it. All in good time I suppose….. Continue reading It’s All In The Details
The Little Things
This is going to be a busy week. Appointments, meetings, maybe an evening out…..so not a lot of time to write. In one of the “Old House” sites I follow they were talking about all of the little details they love about their old houses. I thought that would be a great way to buy me some time and a great excuse to show off some of the little touches I love most about my Narwhal. So tonight I present this beautiful glass doorknob. More doorknob pics to follow….. Continue reading The Little Things
