To Market

I have developed a new obsession. Facebook Marketplace. I am a big believer in recycling and up cycling and reusing what already exists. I love being able to give new life to old things and allowing them to live on just a little longer. I enjoy hunting down things that are unique and unusual AND I enjoy being able to peek into other people’s lives. Enter the Marketplace. It can be hit or miss but I have found some really good deals on interesting pieces. The area we are in is filled with antiques and you can find people selling … Continue reading To Market

In the Spirit of Rolodexes and Address Books……

It started in December. A “Christmas Card” friend asked for my new address. She was going to write it, in ink (because I am never leaving here) in her address book. Her address book?…..I shared with her my excitement of having once inherited a desk in a cubicle that had a dusty Rolodex left behind. I told her how, in this age of technology, I coveted the handwritten names and back line numbers it contained. How it felt like a touchstone to a time when information was gathered and preserved like a secret to be kept, an honor to be … Continue reading In the Spirit of Rolodexes and Address Books……

For Whom The Bell Tolls

In our new town, in our new house, in our new life, we are surrounded by bells. They are a marker of time and a recorder of events. The church bells chime every hour from eight AM to eight PM. The school bell ushers kids from class to class. The fire station bell gives us a moment to pause and consider ourselves lucky it is not ringing for us. The bells guide and direct us from one task to another. Mark our progress as we work. Challenge and motivate us to keep going until the next bell gives us reason … Continue reading For Whom The Bell Tolls

The Mighty Have Fallen

A few weeks ago as I was leaving to run errands, I heard it. Heavy machinery down the street. I thought little of it as I hurried on my merry way and made a mental note to check it out upon my return. Driving home I came across the source of the commotion and I was stunned. I had read in the paper at some point that several old Live Oak trees were slated to be removed to accommodate road improvements. My husband and I had walked and driven the length of the street in question and had pointed out … Continue reading The Mighty Have Fallen

“Wood” You Look At That

Just a quick post tonight to share this exciting discovery. After kicking around several options, we finally decided to invest in a small floor sander and start refinishing the upstairs floors. Why not have projects going in every room all at the same time? We were initially disappointed when we removed the old carpets to discover that the wood floors had at some point been painted with dark brown paint. Not complaining….to each their own and I am sure whoever did so had their reasons and it appealed to them. It did not however, appeal to us. We were a … Continue reading “Wood” You Look At That

North, South Eggs, West

After recently discovering how much I appreciated and enjoyed honest to goodness real mango (see my Mango Madness post) I have been taking baby steps into the world of “real” food. That sounds crazy doesn’t it? Real food should be the norm, the thing I am most comfortable with, not the exception. Yet here I am. A grown person whose adult life has mostly revolved around convenience. What is the easiest, cheapest, fastest way to get the food from point A to point B and be on my way to more “important” things. Yet what could be more important than … Continue reading North, South Eggs, West

Puppy Love

This week’s Thing I am Loving RIGHT now (on Valentine’s Day of all days) is this picture I snapped yesterday. My husband is not a big dog person, but he has the biggest heart. We have a human child (who is now an adult person) two cats and two dogs. They all have middle names so they know when they are in trouble. This little guy is “Dobby Elliot Gerard Odom Baloo Squiddy Magillicutty aka Tim” if that gives you any indication of how bad he can be. I am the one who brought him home from the pound against … Continue reading Puppy Love
